“You can’t cherish the exceptional without experiencing the banal first”. Conversely, the law of diminishing returns also tells us that regardless of how exceptional something may be, if witnessed frequently enough it will lose it’s luster. Unfortunately, that’s how spoiled we’ve become with the William’s sisters. They’ve been consistent and great for so long that plain sports fans, jot just tennis aficionados, have come to expect it. It’s the “perpetual champions syndrome”, it doesn’t make news when they win, it only trends when they lose. Well, as we were all privileged to witness another All-Williams tournament final in the French Open, it’s time to re-recognize how great they have been for so long and how there will never by anyone (two) like them again in our lifetime.
