‘The Husband’s Secret’: You won’t want to keep this to yourself

thehusbandssecretThere is no secret this book is 5 stars. Being that it is currently #4 on the New York Times bestseller list and has been on the list for the last 10 weeks. Three women in an impossible situation: Cecilia Fitzpatrick lives to be perfect: a perfect marriage, three perfect daughters, and a perfectly organized life. Then she finds a letter from her husband, John-Paul, to be opened only in the event of his death. Meanwhile, Tess O’Leary’s husband also has a secret that he is waiting to share one day after work. Finally, Rachel Crowley is still trying to solve the murder of her daughter over 20 years ago. Their three lives all intersect in a small town in Australia. This book is a page-turner, 416 pages just fly by. Simultaneously, it is a book that makes you stop, think and try to absorb all that is going on. This book evoked so many questions: How far would you go to protect your family at the expense of others? Is secrecy is ever warranted and justifiable? How well can one know one’s spouse? Is it possible to ever completely know another person?

The book is well written, as this is Liane Moriatry’s 5th novel, she has a little practice. The characters are well developed and you find yourself stepping into their shoes trying to figure out what you would do. You laugh and cry with each of them. Each chapter ends in a cliff hanger that keeps you up at night reading “just one more chapter” until you realize you have been up all night and have finished the book. Moriarty has already sold the rights to adapt it into a big screen by CBS films. CBS stated “The characters and story have evoked strong critical and reader reactions and we are thrilled to translate that to the big screen.” Read it now as this is the book everyone is talking about and before it becomes the next Hollywood movie that is never as good as the book.
